

Or maybe it is off by default now in Windows 10. Directplay could have been one of the ones I toggled off thinking it was no longer needed. I purposely turned of a lot of Windows features that I did not think I would use. This may not be a problem for most users now that I think about it. No error messages that gave any direction. Sadly, there was no real indication besides just giving it a shot. After toggling it back on it worked right away.


I was not sure if it would work since the HD version is more recently updated and is considered to be more compatible in general. Looking in the windows features it did happen to be toggled off. That reminded me from prior knowledge that a lot of old games used to use it and would not work without it. People were saying that they were getting error messages about Directplay. I was looking around some old Steam threads about the non-hd gold version.
